Following previously leaked material, Google has pulled the lit and showcased the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Both phones are not officially announced yet but should be found in stores somewhere around the fall. Still Google wants to talk about them now. Especially the new custom designed processor.
Most companies keep their mouths shut when it comes to unannounced products. Even when everything is already out in the open (Samsung ahum). The always somewhat obstinate Google, however, has had enough after the necessary of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro leaks. It already unveiled both phones and gave an explanation.
This reminds us of the Pixel 4 which Google also showed off well before the announcement. This time Google is going further. Not only do we get to see the entire device now, we get specifications and various media outlets have already seen the Pixel 6 in person.

This approach is necessary because the new Pixel could use some extra explanation. After all, it's not a usual phone. It is the first with a self-developed chip under the hood. Previously, Google opted for chipsets from Qualcomm, sometimes accompanied by its own chips. Gone is also the mid-range character, both phones are high-end flagships.
Biggest difference between the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro is the screen size and the 4x zoom camera on the back of the Pixel 6 Pro. Both phones feature a wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle camera with the fingerprint scanner this time in the screen. The Pixel 6 has a maximum screen refresh rate of 90Hz on a 6.4-inch screen, the Pro gets 120Hz on a slightly larger 6.7-inch panel.
Google Tensor
The Google Pixel 6 may be the first 'System on a chip' (SoC), but it's certainly not Google's first chip. For example, the Pixel 2 already featured a home-grown image processor called the Pixel Visual Core (PVC), later followed by the Pixel Neural Core. And in its data centres, Google has been using its own TPU (Tensor Processing Unit) for years.
According to Google, the Tensor is mainly good at artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). These algorithms usually remain invisible to the end user but are frequently used by the camera, for example, for HDR and nite mode. But Google also thinks it can benefit from speech recognition. This is where the Pixel 6 should really beat the competition.
Pixel 6 in stores
The Google Pixel 6 with its matte aluminium finish and the lightly polished Pixel 6 Pro with Android 12 will be officially announced around the autumn of 2021. We hope to hear some missing details as well. Including pricing.
