Sonim announced a new phone that can stand heavy conditions. The XP1300 Core is, according to Sonim, the first handset ever with an IP68 certificate, which requires that a phone can stand dust and water.

Sonim says that the XP1300 Core can stand scratching and falling from 2 meters. The phone will be available worldwide in November, and will cost 269 euros. Most important features are an improved display with Gorilla Glass and waterproof connectors.

Created for heavy duty circumstances

The XP1300 Core complies to the American MIL-810G certification for salt, dust, mist, moisture, shocks and termal shocks. To further imporve the phone, Sonim added a glassfiber mix to the exterior of the phone. The microphone suppresses noise, to keep calls clear when machines are near. The display is created to be visible outside without problems. According to Sonim CEO Bob Paschke, the phone is suitable for "construction workers, farmers, dockworkers and others who work in harsh environments".
