Xiaomi announces POCO M3 under its own brand name

Xiaomi not only announced a new POCO phone today, it also announces that POCO will continue under its own name from now on. The POCO M3 is the first model to stand on its own two feet. It is an inexpensive smartphone with a crisp screen and large battery.

After 6 million sold POCO phones, Xiaomi thinks it's time for the brand to stand on its own. POCO is already active in 35 countries, quite a lot when you consider that it has only been active for 3 years. The POCO M3 will certainly increase the popularity of the brand, especially because the phone should only cost 149 euros. But what do you get for that?

The POCO M3 features a 6.53 inch screen with a neat Full HD+ resolution. This is sharper than HD+ screens that some competitors are using. The 8MP selfie camera is in a notch at the top. On the back, we notice a large black area in which the camera modules are placed. Amongst a 48MP main camera, 2MP depth camera and 2MP macro lens. In other words; the usual trio in this price segment. The camera has a nite mode as well as slow-motion video.

POCO M3 price and availability

The battery capacity of 6000mAh on rather large. Still we don't see that (fortunately) back in its weight. At 198 grammes it stays just under the 200 gramme limit. The unit is powered by a Qualcomm 662 processor, the same chipset as in the Moto G9 Power which also matches the M3 in many other specifications. The RAM memory is 4GB large and there is a choice of 64 and 128GB of storage memory. The former should cost 149 euros, the latter 169 euros. The POCO M3 will be in stores from December 3.
