Europe slows down Motorola acquisition by Google

Google wants to buy Motorola, and has the agreement of the management of the mobile phone manufacturer for the takeover. The search giant pays 12.5 million dollar for Motorola. Now the authorities have to agree.

Since both Google and Motorola Mobility operate worldwide and have branches in many countries, the number of governments that should look at the the merger is large. The European Commission now delays the acquisition process. The European government needs more documents from Google and Motorola, before a fiat for the acquisition can be given.

The deal is sealed after all authorities have agreed and put their signatures. Until then, the companies operate independently. Google wants to take over Motorola especially because of the patents of the company. With that patents, Google can defend Android manufacturers against lawsuits from competitors like Apple.
