OnePlus 8 Pro product description

The OnePlus 8 Pro is the ultimate flagship for the first half of 2020. Thanks to the many innovations you will be able to use it for many years to come. According to some, this 8 Pro is different from other OnePlus phones and the first real flagship of the rebellious OnePlus. What they mean by that and whether we agree with that is something we're going to find out here

Largest battery ever in a OnePlus

This OnePlus 8 Pro has a number of specs that you have seen at other flagships for years but did not use OnePlus before. Think of wireless charging and an official waterproof body. Not because it was difficult to add but OnePlus wants to do it right. Wireless charging with the same speed as wired for example. For that you do need the special Warp Charge 30 Wireless charger. It contains a fan to keep it cool so whether you want it next to your bed is something that remains to be seen. Unfortunately the charger does not come standard in the box (unless you live in the United States). In the box you will find Warp Charge 30T Power Adaptor with which you can charge your 8 Pro. With this adaptor you can charge up to 50% of the large 4510 mAh battery in just 23 minutes. That is also the largest battery OnePlus has ever put in a phone.

Screen even smoother, even more colourful

OnePlus innovated earlier with its Fluid Display with its high refresh rate of 90 Hz. This makes animations look smoother and scrolling more responsive. This OnePlus 8 Pro tops that by increasing it to 120 Hz. Making it even faster and smoother without downscaling to a lower resolution as for example Samsung does. Thanks to the 10-bit support, the screen is more colourful than ever and according to the connoisseurs of DisplayMate, it is indistinguishable from real life. Even in direct sunlight, thanks to the high peak brightness. However, the screen does have a considerable rounding at the edges. That is something you have to like and it's also more form over function. The pixels on the side of the screen are not easily readable and therefore become rather superfluous, despite the fact that the bulge looks nice

Main OnePlus 8 Pro specifications

  • 6.78 inch large Fluid AMOLED screen with 120Hz
  • Quad Camera with 48MP main, 2x zoom, 120° wide angle and colour filter
  • Support for fast 4G and 5G internet
  • Octacore Snapdragon 865 processor at up to 2.8 GHz
  • Use 2 nano SIM cards thanks to Dual SIM support

New camera experience

Forget about the 5G support, the newer processor, the faster memory and the immersive Dolby Atmos sound. We want to talk about the camera. With this OnePlus 8 Pro, OnePlus takes serious steps when it comes to functions and image quality. We see a Quad camera system of which the main camera consists of a 48 megapixel sensor. In itself nothing special, but OnePlus does something special with it. The wide-angle camera has the same number of pixels, so you capture as much detail in widescreen as usual. The 8 megapixel zoom camera can only be found in this generation with this 8 Pro. You can zoom in up to 2x without loss of quality and 30x digital. Images remain sharp thanks to the optical image stabilisation. The fourth camera is equipped with a so-called colour filter for fun effects. Fun features, new innovations and major improvements. But with a hefty price tag because the 8 Pro is the most expensive OnePlus ever.

MKBHD already shows OnePlus 8 Pro

Phone news ·

Altho the OnePlus 8 Pro is expected to be unveiled later today YouTuber MKBHD already placed a teaser about it. Even showing the device but in particular the screen which is extremely responsive due to its high refresh rate of 120 Hz.

Marques Brownlee, better known as MKBHD, is considered an influential tech reviewer. In a teaser video on Twitter he admits using the OnePlus 8 Pro for the last 2 weeks. He got it from OnePlus itself for review that is probably going live later tonight after OnePlus announced their new flagship.

Altho we see the device, not all of it is visible. Marques is using a case to hide the looks. What we do see it the screen. It has sharply curved edges, something Marques is not a big fan of. The rounded edges is something we saw a lot on Samsung phones, but it is something Samsung itself has become more reticent about in recent years. OnePlus apparently likes it. The screen has a high 120 Hz refresh rate, just like the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus, but OnePlus does this in Quad HD+ resolution instead of switching back to Full HD+.

Renders show all future colours OnePlus 8 Pro

Rumours ·

We now know that the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro will be announced on April 14th. Thanks to a new leak we also know in which colours the OnePlus 8 Pro will launch. Prepare for some striking colours.

The OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro will be unveiled on April 14th at 17:00 CET via live stream. Entirely in style of OnePlus they have even announced some specs. For example 5G support and a fluid 120 Hz screen. Now thanks to Roland Quandt from WinFuture we also know what the OnePlus 8 Pro will look like and what colours it will come in.

Future colours of OnePlus 8 Pro

In addition to the boring and usual black version, we also get an Ultra Marine Blue and Glacial Green version. Blue and green are not very unusual as colours, but the colour tones OnePlus chooses are. Aside from the new colours we mainly see evolutionary improvements. For example, the screen bezels have become thinner and a camera sensor has been added. The smoother screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz was announced earlier. Also the presence of 5G support is no longer a surprise; OnePlus already announced that.

Bullets Wireless Z

The device itself together with the OnePlus 8 will be announced on April 14th at 17:00 CET and can be viewed by everyone via the web. Next to this device also wireless Bullets Wireless Z earplugs are expected. These earplugs are wired but connect wirelessly to your phone. So they are not true wireless earbuds.

Pictures of OnePlus 8 Pro with 5G appeared

Rumours ·

We have some real pictures inside of what looks like the OnePlus 8 Pro. Here we see a device with a small screen hole, at least 3 cameras on the back and a mention to 5G-support.

References to the OnePlus 8 Pro already go back to October 2019. That was very early because its predecessor, the OnePlus 7T Pro, was announced in the same month. There are plenty of differences. For example, the popup self-image camera was swapped for a screen hole. OnePlus chooses the top left corner to place a 32 megapixel sensor.

OnePlus 8 Pro screenOnePlus 8 Pro rear

The OnePlus 8 Pro is also expected to become OnePlus' first phone with wireless charging. Other specifications include a 6.7-inch Fluid AMOLED display with 120Hz and Quad HD+ resolution and a Snapdragon 865 processor with 5G support. On the camera side, we strongly consider a 64 megapixel main camera, 20 megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens and a 12 megapixel telephoto camera with 10x hybrid zoom. There also seems to be a 4th sensor to recognize depth.

Launch OnePlus 8 Pro

A launch always seems to take place half a year after the previous model. In the case of the 8 Pro it comes out on March. The Corona virus could still throw a spanner in the works. Many Chinese factories are currently down to contain the virus outbreak. So April is also a good opportunity.

Deep Dive 120hz Fluid Display OnePlus

OnePlus Announces 120Hz Fluid Display for OnePlus 8 Pro

Phone news ·

OnePlus does an LG-tje; it announces a part of its next unannounced device. This is the Fluid Display; the screen of the upcoming OnePlus 8 Pro. A special feature is the high 120 Hertz refresh rate.

2020 will be the year of telephone screens with fluid high refresh rates. If we had phones with 90Hz screens last year, OnePlus is now announcing its first 120Hz panel. This Fluid Display is most likely for the OnePlus 8 Pro although OnePlus does not say so in so many words.

OnePlus 120Hz Fluid Display

Samsung will also introduce 120Hz phone screens in 2020, and in the meantime Sharp and Razr also offer such phones. This makes animations look more fluid. And scrolling through lists looks smoother. The Fluid Display screen gets the same Quad HD+ resolution as in the OnePlus 7T Pro. We only see that resolution in the Pro version, in contrast to the Full HD+ resolution on the entry-level model.

OnePlus 8 announcement

When we are allowed to greet the OnePlus 8, 8 Pro and possibly 8 Lite is still unknown. OnePlus did not make any statements about this. Fact is that OnePlus announces a model twice a year. Last time was September 2019. So we may have to wait March.
