The OnePlus 10 Pro is a 5G phone with a 2nd generation Hasselblad camera and flagship-worthy performance. But that is expected when you consider the Pro suffix in the name. Whether it's worth it is something we'll explore for you here.
The name of the OnePlus 10 Pro suggests that there is also a OnePlus 10, but it has not yet been announced at the time of writing. Whatever the reason, it makes the storey a little harder for this 10 Pro. It has to live up to the expectation of the Pro name without being able to compare it to anything. OnePlus does make a reasonable attempt with a Hasselblad camera. As with its predecessor, the 9 Pro, the Swedish Hasselblad helped calibrate the camera. So the camera was not made by Hasselblad but created together with Hasselblad.
We need to explain this a little better. This 2nd generation Hasselblad camera on the 10 Pro consists of a 48MP primary camera with a Sony IMX789 sensor with optical image stabilisation. Below sits a telephoto camera with 8MP sensor and 3.3x zoom, equipped with OIS. On the right is the 50MP ultra-wide-angle camera with an extra-wide 150° viewing angle. Hasselblad has taken care of the colour calibration. Colours should be more life-like as a result. Hasselblad is also responsible for some additional filters, called Master Style. You can use a preset style for some specific situations, like nature shots and portraits. If you prefer to stay in control, the 12-bit RAW recording mode allows you to work with your favourite image editing programme afterward.
OnePlus puts further focus on the screen with the 10 Pro. This 6.7-inch unit is of the Fluid AMOLED type. That's OnePlus' fancy way of saying that animations look incredibly smooth (120Hz back to as low as 1Hz) and extra colourful thanks to the 10-bit panel. Performance is also pretty good, thanks to Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. This can use 8 or 12GB of RAM, with which you can access 128 or 256GB of storage. The battery has a capacity of 5000mAh and can be charged quickly with 80W SuperVOOC. Wireless charging is also fast, thanks to the separately available 50W AirVOOC charger.
The OnePlus 10 Pro runs OxygenOS 12, which is based on Android 12. It doesn't look like the beloved OxygenOS you know from previous OnePlus phones because it has now merged mainly with ColorOS from Oppo. In time, these two operating systems should fully merge, but for now, they exist separately. That will be a disappointment for hardcore OnePlus fans. OxygenOS 12 is more like ColorOS, and you have to luv it. Therefore, if you are coming from a OnePlus 9 Pro, we do not know if you should upgrade. The limited improvements and the new OS make it not immediately a logical choice.
